Dear Reidar,

thanks a lot for forwarding me your observation and beautiful picture of this colour-ringed sanderling. This is very useful information for me. The sanderling you observed is colour-ringed on Vlieland, a Wadden Sea Island in The Netherlands on 19 April 2008. It has never been observed after release. I send a copy of this e-mail to the ringers too.

Could you please let me know the name and exact location where you observed the bird? Did you observe many more sanderlings on that location?

In fact, I receive very little resightings of birds east of the Nether;ands (that is, the birds probably breeding in Siberia), so this one is particularly interesting. I will be on Vlieland soon again to observe colour-ringed sanderlings and look forward to see this individual there too. I will let you know if I do.

We have colour-ringed more than thousand sanderlings in Ghana, Mauritania, Netherlands, Iceland and Greenland, so there is a reasonable chance to observe more during their migration. I look forward to hear from you again, also when you observe this bird on other occasions during the next days, to know how long it stays in southern Norway.

with kind regards,
Jeroen
